Panic is beginning to set in at the White House. NBC News Chief Andrea Mitchell has learned that staffers in the Trump Administration are racing to “purge their cellphones” of relevant information as the threat of a subpoena by one of the three investigations into the Trump team’s potentially treasonous collusion with the Russian Federation grows with each passing day.
NBC News Chief Andrea Mitchell, speaking last night with Rep. Dan Donovan (R-NY), asked him about the legal ramifications of deleting the information on their phones:
“I’ve learned from a single source…I’m told that there are a lot of former transition team members in and outside of the White House now purging their private phones, afraid that they are gonna get subpoenaed by these various investigators.
These desperate acts are only plunging these staffers deeper into hot water, since the White House’s legal counsel [had] ordered all staff members to preserve “any materials that could be connected to Russian interference in the 2016 election and other related investigations,” as reported by the Associated Press.
Mitchell asked Rep. Donovan what the legal ramifications might be; Donovan replied that while he wasn’t entirely familiar with the circumstances he acknowledged that it would definitely be “violating the law.”
It’s also a sure sign that things are coming to a head. Three of Trump’s former advisers – Putin’s agent Paul Manafort, professional crackpot Roger Stone, and oligarch errand-boy Carter Page have all volunteered to testify before the House Intelligence Committee in a clear effort to escape the looming fallout.
The stench of guilt and complicity taints the entire White House, and the rats are running for the sewers.
It is painfully ironic that no less than six months after President Trump and his surrogates falsely accused Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton for deleting emails off of her private email server to avoid scrutiny from the FBI, Trump’s team is busy actually erasing their data to avoid implicating themselves in Trump’s own FBI investigation.
Only this time, the crime was real, and the consequences will make Trump wish he’d never won the election at all.
